Complainant Name:
Darren Rigby-OíNeill

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Blackpool Gazette

Darren Rigby-O'Neill complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published an article which, in his view, was insensitive and inaccurate as it reported that a fire at his home was thought to have been caused by a dropped cigarette when this was not the case.

The complaint was resolved promptly when, as a result of the complainant's direct correspondence with the newspaper, a follow-up article was published making clear that fire officers no longer thought that an unattended cigarette was to blame for the blaze but actually considered a laptop computer the cause.
