Complainant Name:
Peter Dorsam

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Romford Recorder

Peter Dorsam complained to the Press Complaints Commission, on behalf of his friend Fred O'Donnell, that the newspaper's coverage of Mr O'Donnell's conviction for a violent attack contained inaccuracies regarding the nature of the charges faced.

While the complainant acknowledged that information regarding Mr O'Donnell's private life had been given in open court, he also felt that the article contained certain details that were intrusive.

No intrusion was accepted but the complaint was resolved when the newspaper published a correction and apology on the points of inaccuracy. The correction appeared in the following terms:

A court report in last week's Romford Recorder stated that Fred O'Donnell of Artesian Close, Hornchurch, who admitted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, also had a charge of attempted murder against him dropped. We would like to point out that the charge of attempted murder was heard at a previous hearing and O'Donnell was found not guilty. We apologise for any confusion our report may have caused.
