Ms Van der Merwe complained to the Press Complaints Commission that an article reporting on her son's court case contained inaccuracies and was misleading.

The complaint was resolved on the basis of the following clarification and apology, which had been published in the newspaper prior to the Commission's involvement:

Following a report of a court case in the Royston Weekly News on August 18, 2011, involving Neil van der Merwe, of Swinburne Close, Royston, we would like to clarify that the £10,000 and what were originally suspected stolen goods mentioned in the article were not seized by police at his house. They were found during raids at other addresses in the town in December last year and were later handed back by the police, following the conclusion of their investigations. We apologise for not making this clear in the original report.
