Mrs Sandra Blunden complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had incorrectly claimed that her son's car was travelling at 100 mph.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the alteration of the online article and the publication, on the website and in print, of the following statement:

On 5 October, we reported the inquest into the death of Thomas Blunden, relying on information from an agency. We are happy to make clear that, while the corner accepted the car was travelling "brisk and fast", it could not be established that it was travelling at 100 mph.
