Publication: Daily Mail

Complaint:

Peter Reynolds, leader of the political party Cannabis Law Reform (CLEAR), complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published an online-only article which wrongly reported that smoking cannabis has been found to be a major cause of psychotic illness.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper amended the text of the article appropriately and appended the following corrective footnote to the piece:

"A previous version of this article said that smoking cannabis has been found to be a major cause of psychotic illnesses in those who are genetically vulnerable. In fact, scientific evidence shows that smoking cannabis could increase the risk of psychotic illnesses in those who are genetically vulnerable. We are happy to clarify this point."
