Complainant Name:
Mrs Anita Flint

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Argus (Brighton)

Mrs Anita Flint complained to the Press Complaints Commission that an inquest report into the death of her son, Ashley Emin, contained a number of inaccuracies.

The matter was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following correction, as well as a private letter to the complainant:

An article in The Argus on June 17 reported on the death of Mr Ashley Emin, who died on Christmas Eve from a suspected methadone overdose. The story reported that Mr Emin's mother, Anita Flint, had taken her son in the car to buy heroin on the morning of 24 December. Mrs Flint has asked us to make clear that, in fact, this occurred the day before Mr Emin's death (23 December). We accept that Mrs Flint did not then 'drive her son home to Eastbourne Road', as stated, and that she did not describe her son as 'gaunt'. We are happy to make this clear and offer our apologies for any distress caused.
