Complainant Name:
Mrs Carol Butterworth

Clauses Noted: 1, 5

Publication: Blackpool Gazette

Mrs Carol Butterworth complained to the Press Complaints Commission about the newspaper's coverage of her son Andrew Kendrick, who had recently passed away. She felt that the newspaper's reporting of the inquest was excessive. In addition, she expressed concern that the newspaper had failed to contact her prior to publication of his inquest report, and that the previous reports contained inaccurate claims.

The matter was resolved when the newspaper provided the complainant with the following assurance:

The Gazette, undertakes that, in the event that any further stories or photographs are considered for publication in relation to Andrew Kendrick, we will - as far as is reasonably possible and save for exceptional circumstances - make best efforts to ensure that Mrs Carol Butterworth (Andrew's mother) is notified of the intended publication and subject matter prior to publication. Mrs Butterworth's prior notification of any future articles does not infer her agreement to their content or publicatio.
