Mr Peter Southgate, owner of the Vault Bar in Woodford Green, complained to the Press Complaints Commission about an article which reported that an application for planning permission to stay open beyond 11pm on weekends had been rejected. The complainant believed that the article was inaccurate and was particularly concerned that readers would be misled as to who owned the bar.

The matter was resolved when the newspaper agreed to publish the following correction:

Our article of 13 October (Bar told to close its doors by 11pm) reported that two hundred neighbours who signed a petition had won a belated victory when the Vault Bar in Woodford Green lost an appeal to stay open beyond 11pm. We would like to make clear that the petition in question - signed in October 2010 - related to a previous licence extension application, not the planning permission dealt with in our report. We would also like to point out that - contrary to our photo caption - Emily Hughes is not a co-owner of the Bar. The Guardian apologises for any confusion which may have been caused.
