Maureen Andrews

Clauses Noted: 4, 6

Publication: North West Evening Mail

Maureen Andrews complained to the Press Complaints Commission that a reporter acting on behalf of the newspaper had questioned her 16 year-old granddaughter at the family home regarding a story about the teenager's father in such a way that had caused the girl distress.

While the newspaper did not accept that a breach of the Code had occurred as the granddaughter was over 16 and was only approached on one occasion, it acknowledged that she had been upset by the encounter. As a gesture of goodwill, the newspaper provided the complainant's granddaughter with a private letter from the editor and a bunch of flowers and the complaint was resolved on that basis.
