Complainant Name:
Mr John Oddi

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mail

Complaint:

Mr John Oddi complained to the Press Complaints Commission that an article about solar panels had stated inaccurately that unused energy sold back to the grid was paid at 35p per kilowatt hour. A subsequent follow up article had also misrepresented the position. In fact, users of solar power were paid 43.3p per kWh generated, plus 3.1p on 50% of the total generated. In addition, the tariff had an inflation index attached to it.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following correction:

A recent Moneymail article stated that generators of solar power receive 3.1p for every kilowatt hour of energy that they export to the national grid. In fact the tariff, linked to RPI, is 3.1p per kWh for 50pc of the total generated.
