James Stevenson complained to the Press Complaints Commission from HMP Shotts that the newspaper had carried a series of articles linking him to allegations of drug trafficking which, in his view, were inaccurate and misleading in breach of the Editors' Code.

The newspaper explained that the information in the coverage had emerged as part of ongoing investigations into the complainant's activities. While no breach of the Code was accepted, the newspaper offered to place a record of the complainant's concerns on its files for future reference with a view to publishing an appropriate statement should the police investigation find that he had no involvement in smuggling drugs outside of prison or dealing drugs within prison. The complainant accepted this proposal and the matter was resolved on this basis.
