Mr Alan Shannon

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Cumnock Chronicle

Mr Alan Shannon complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published an article reporting on a Fatal Accidents and Sudden Deaths Inquiry (FAI) which contained inaccuracies and was misleading.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following clarification:

An article of 3 July reported that a mine accident in which two men were killed ‘could have been avoided' if Mr Alan Shannon had followed company rules. We are happy to make clear that the Fatal Accident Inquiry concluded that there were several factors which may have contributed to the accident.
