Mr Alex Scott complained to the Press Complaints Commission that an article reporting on a death included a picture of him with a caption that inaccurately identified him as the deceased's son, in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Code.


The complaint was resolved when the newspaper removed the picture from the online version of the article, added a note to its picture library to ensure the picture was not re-used, alerted the agency which had supplied the image, and published the following correction and apology:

The two men identified as the sons of Sally Hodkin in the photograph on page 9 of yesterday's Times are family friends, and not her sons as we were told by the agency that supplied the photograph. We apologise for any distress caused.
