Mr Richard Ottaway MP

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Daily Telegraph

Mr Richard Ottaway MP complained to the Press Complaints Commission that an article reporting on his advice to a constituent regarding methods of transport for taking his daughter to school was misleading in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following clarification in the newspaper:

Richard Ottaway MP

Following "MP tells father to let 4-year-old daughter cycle miles to school" (Nov 5), concerning a family's difficulty in securing a reception class place close to home, Mr Ottaway has told us that he took up the child's case with the local education authority and that cycling to a school further afield was only discussed as an option for consideration until a nearer school place became available. We apologise to him for any misleading impression given.
