Complainant Name:
Ms Amy Collinson

Clauses Noted: 3, 5

Publication: East Grinstead Courier & Observer

Ms Amy Collinson complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the article had breached Clause 3 (Privacy) and Clause 5 (Intrusion into grief and shock) of the Editors' Code of Practice. The complainant considered that the article, which had included quotes from her statement to an inquest into her mother's death, had given the impression that she had conducted an interview with the newspaper. The article had mentioned her name and the address details of a family friend without seeking consent. The article had included unnecessary details about her mother's suicide.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated an agreement whereby a letter would be sent by the newspaper to the complainant and a family friend whose address had been included in the article. Furthermore, the newspaper would amend the online version of the article to make it clearer that the complainant had not given an interview at the inquest.
