Complainant Name:
Mr Alan Shannon

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Sunday Mail

Mr Alan Shannon complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published an article reporting on a Fatal Accidents and Sudden Deaths Inquiry (FAI) which contained inaccuracies and was misleading.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following clarification:

An article on 3 July reported that Mr Alan Shannon had been blamed for the death of two mineworkers and that the accident could have been avoided had he followed company rules. We are happy to make clear that the Fatal Accident Inquiry concluded that there were several other factors listed in the report as having contributed to the accident besides the actions of Mr Shannon.
