Complainant Name:
Mr Colin Philip

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mail

Complaint:

Mr Colin Phillip complained that the article had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complainant considered that the article had been inaccurate in stating that around 5% of men had been victims of domestic abuse. The Home Office statistical bulletin illustrated the figure to be 15.8%.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the following correction to be published with the online edition of the article:

A previous version of this story gave the wrong figures for men reporting cases of domestic violence. The correct figures suggest 17% of men say they have been victims of domestic violence and 30% of women. We regret this error.

In addition, the newspaper amended the article to reflect the correct figure for male victims of domestic abuse.
