Publication: Southport Visiter

Ms Lucy Buckingham, on behalf of a family member, complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published an article which identified a child in the process of reporting a physical assault, despite the existence of reporting restrictions, in breach of Clause 6 (i) (Children), and Clause 9 (Reporting of Crime) of the Editors’ Code.

The newspaper apologised to the complainant and said that the child's name had been published as a result of human error, and that it had tightened its procedures to ensure that the error did not reoccur. The complainant resolved her complaint on the basis of the action that had been taken by the newspaper.
