Dr John Glasspool complained to the Press Complaints Commission that an article reporting on GPs' salaries was inaccurate and misleading in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following clarification:

GPs' salaries

An article of 31 December 2011 ("GPs' salaries to rise by a quarter") reported that GPs' pay would rise by more than 25% to reach £130,000 a year. While the article did state that "in some areas" doctors would be paid an extra £26,000 to "commission NHS services", we have been asked to clarify that only a small number of GPs will receive this extra money, and that it is not part of their take-home pay but used to cover locums to cover their absence.
