Complainant Name:
Mr Freddie Wright

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mail

Mr Freddie Wright complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the article, which had reported on a survey of social attitudes toward gay marriage and adoption, had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complainant considered the headline to the article, which had stated that the survey had found most British people opposed gay marriage, was inaccurate and misleading. The survey had found 47% against gay marriage, which was not ‘most Britons'.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the amending of the headline to state, ‘almost half of Britons still oppose gay marriage'.
