Complainant Name:
Mr Mohamed Huzair

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Independent

Complaint:

Mr Mohamed Huzair complained to the Press Complaints Commission under Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice about an article which reported on concerns that the UK Government might be ‘about to sanction the development of nerve agents for British police'. The complainant said that the term ‘nerve agents' had a specific meaning, and that the substances referred to in the article were more accurately described as "chemical incapacitants".

Resolution:

While the newspaper did not accept that its article was significantly misleading, the matter was resolved when the PCC negotiated amendments to the online article.
