Complainant Name:
Ms Sharen Green

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Jewish Chronicle

Complaint:

Ms Sharen Green complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the article, a comment piece by Geoffrey Alderman on an inter-faith study day held in Dorset, had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complainant, who had organised the study day in question, noted that the columnist had based his critical opinion of it on incorrect information. He had criticised the day for what he perceived to have been its lack of objectivity; however, this criticism was based on the inaccurate understanding that the day had been organised by Friends of Sabeel UK, and attended by Jews for boycotting Israeli Goods founding member Deborah Fink.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following statement:

On February 14 we reported on an interfaith study day, partly organised by Friends of Sabeel UK, and attended by Jews for boycotting Israeli goods founding member Deborah Fink. We have subsequently been informed that Friends of Sabeel UK had no part in organising the event, and that Ms Fink's attendance was limited to the evening session, a service at Sherborne Abbey.
