Complainant Name:
Mr Julian Assange

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Sun

Complaint:

Mr Julian Assange complained to the Press Complaints Commission under Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice about a claim appearing in an article which reported on his ongoing legal proceedings.

Resolution:

The matter was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following correction, as well as appropriate amendments to the online article:

On July 14 we reported that Julian Assange was on bail as he appealed against a ruling to have him extradited to Sweden to face two charges of rape. In fact Mr Assange has not so far been charged with any offence, and one allegation is of molestation, not rape.
