Complainant Name:
Geoff Hoskins

Clauses Noted: 1, 5

Publication: The Daily Telegraph

Geoff Hoskins complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published a report of his brother's death that was both inaccurate and insensitive at a time of grief in breach of Clauses 1 (Accuracy) and 5 (Intrusion into grief or shock) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The newspaper acknowledged the errors and the upset caused to the complainant. It took the following steps to resolve the complaint: it promptly removed the online article; it wrote a private letter to the complainant; it made a donation to charity; and it offered to publish a correction and apology on the outcome of the inquest.
