Complainant Name:
Mr John Jack

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Herald (Glasgow)

Complaint:

Mr John Jack, a property conservation employee for Edinburgh City Council, complained to the Press Complaints Commission under Clause 1 (Accuracy) about an article which reported that he was being investigated after it was claimed he was running a ‘building firm' offering to take on statutory repairs notice work. The complainant was primarily concerned that readers would be misled into believing that his firm carried out building or statutory repair work, when, in fact, it only gave advice property-related matters.

Resolution:

The matter was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following correction, and the removal of the online article:

We reported on July 22 that a council property employee, John Jack, was under investigation after it was reported he was running a firm offering building repairs work. Mr Jack's company, Lothian Property Matters, did not carry out any building or statutory repair work but offered general advice on a number of property-related matters. We are happy to clarify this point.
