Complainant Name:
Mr Julian Assange

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Observer

Mr Julian Assange complained to the Press Complaints Commission under Clause 1 (Accuracy) about a review of ‘Julian Assange: The Unauthorised Autobiography'. He was concerned about a claim that he had criticised ‘[author] Andrew O'Hagan's writing', explaining that his criticisms of the book were directed exclusively at the publisher.

The matter was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following correction:

Julian Assange has asked us to make it clear that, contrary to our review of "Julian Assange: The Unauthorised Autobiography' (Books, 2 October, 2011), he did not "criticise author Andrew O'Hagan's writing". He says his criticisms of the book were directed at the publisher, Canongate. He wishes to underline that he admires Mr O'Hagan's writing.
