Complainant Name:
Ms Precious Douaihy

Clauses Noted: 3, 5

Publication: The Sun

Ms Precious Douaihy complained to the Press Complaints Commission through Bhatt Murphy Solicitors that the newspaper had published an article reporting on her relationship with the late Mr Mark Duggan which intruded into her privacy in breach of Clause 3 (Privacy) of the Editors' Code of Practice and intruded into her grief and shock in breach of Clause 5 (Intrusion into grief or shock) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following clarification and apology in the newspaper:

On August 16, 2011 we published a report about Precious Douaihy and her relationship with Mark Duggan, who was killed by police in August 2011. We accept that the publication of this article, based upon intrusive information about Ms Douaihy, was inappropriate and that the photograph, which was taken in unsuitable circumstances, should not have been published. We regret the publication and apologise to Ms Douaihy for any distress caused by our approaches and the story.
