Mr Nigel May

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Times

Mr Nigel May complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published an article which inaccurately reported that the National Union of Teachers was planning a strike in the middle of the examination period, in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following correction:

In a leading article on April 11 ("Teaching lessons") it was wrongly stated that the National Union of Teachers planned a national strike for May 22. This was in fact a date proposed for local action by NUT delegates from Birmingham. As we correctly reported in the same issue, the NUT conference agreed to a one-day national strike over pensions, probably in late June. We are happy to provide the clarification and apologise for the delay in doing so.
