John Forrester complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had intruded into the lives of his young children by identifying them in relation to a story criticising his professional background in breach of Clause 6 (Children) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper immediately removed the children's names from the online article and published the following statement acknowledging the error in print:

John Forrester

In our article headlined ‘Fling Sir back at school', on April 29, we named the children of ex-teacher John Forrester. Their details should not have been in the report and we apologise to the Forrester family for any upset caused.

A similar wording was also published alongside the online piece and, in addition to this, the newspaper wrote a private letter of apology to the complainant and his family.
