Complainant Name: Clauses Noted: 3 Publication: Irish News Complaint: A man complained to the Press Complaints Commission through O Muirigh Solicitors about an article based on an interview the newspaper had conducted with him, in which he alleged harassment by police intelligence officers. The complainant expressed concern under Clause 3 (Privacy) of the Editors' Code of Practice that, in spite of an express agreement between himself and the newspaper, it had proceeded to publish details about his brother. Resolution: The newspaper did not accept that there had been any agreement that the complainant's brother would not be mentioned. However, the matter was resolved when the PCC negotiated a private letter for the complainant, in which the newspaper expressed regret for the distress caused.
