Complainant Name:
Mr Julian Assange

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mail

Complaint:

Mr Julian Assange complained to the Press Complaints Commission under Clause 1 (Accuracy) about a review of the biographical play ‘Man in The Middle', in which it was stated that the complainant was ‘fighting rape charges'.

Resolution:

The matter was resolved when the PCC negotiated an amendment to the online article, as well as the addition of the following clarifying statement:

An earlier version of this article stated that Mr Assange was ‘fighting rape charges'. In fact, there is only one allegation of Category 3 (less serious crime) ‘rape' and Mr Assange has not, to date, been charged with any offence.
