Complainant Name:
Miss Sally Preece

Clauses Noted: 1, 12

Publication: Daily Mail

Miss Sally Preece complained to the Press Complaints Commission that a blog piece published by Mail Online was inaccurate in the claim that one per cent of the population were "inclined" towards homosexuality and was discriminatory towards homosexual people.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper apologised for the offence caused by the article and emphasised that the opinions expressed in the blog piece did not represent the views of the newspaper. It had promptly removed the article from its website, and published a letter on the debate in the newspaper. It explained that the 1% figure had come from an Office of National Statistics report from September 2011.
