Complainant Name:
Mr Matt Griffin

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Sunday Telegraph

Complaint:

Mr Matt Griffin complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published an article that had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complainant said that the article had inaccurately claimed that 22% of male police officers in the Metropolitan Police were obese. He noted that this figure - given in the Winsor Report - referred to male employees of the force in general.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the amendment of the online article, so that the 22% figure was replaced with the claim that ‘a significant number of serving male officers are obese'.
