Complainant Name:
Mr Oliver Gray

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mail

Complaint:

Mr Oliver Gray complained on behalf of Lizzy Dive to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice. He was concerned that the newspaper had incorrectly claimed in an online article that Ms Dive, who had been playing Mrs Twit in a stage production of the Twits, had sustained concussion when accidentally hit by a kettle, and that she had been "rushed" to hospital. She had been taken to hospital two hours after the event.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the alteration of the article to remove the reference to Ms Dive sustaining concussion and being rushed to hospital in addition to the publication of the following footnote to the article:

In an earlier version of this item, we reported that Ms Dive suffered mild concussion. We are happy to clarify it was only minor bruising.
