Complainant Name:
Mr Christopher Mackin

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mail

Complaint:

Mr Christopher Mackin complained to the Press Complaints Commission about the publication of an article which he said was inaccurate, in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

According to the complainant, it was inaccurate for the article headline to have claimed that Sussex Police planned to equip its officers with ‘iPads' which ‘could cost up to 999', as the price of the most expensive computer tablet on the market was 300.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the amendment of the headline to the online article, so that it would read: ‘Police force to issue iPads and smart phones so officers can fill in forms on the beat....as 500 front-line jobs are cut to save money'
