Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Independent

A woman complained to the Press Complaints Commission under Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice that the newspaper had published an article containing a number of statements - in particular, relating to her financial situation and ability to provide for her children - which she denied having said.

The newspaper did not accept that the quotes were inaccurate - they had been published in 2004 following an interview with the complainant, who had raised no objection until now. However, the matter was resolved when the PCC negotiated amendments to the online article.
