Complainant Name:
Mr Serge Voronov

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Daily Telegraph

Complaint:

Mr Serge Voronov complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy). He was concerned that the newspaper had inaccurately stated that tens of thousands of people had died as a result of wild fires across Russia in 2010; according to a report by the European Commission Research Centre the actual number of people who died was much lower.

Resolution:

The matter was resolved when the PCC negotiated the amendment of the online article so that it would read: "Reports at the time suggested that hundreds of people died as a result of the impact of wild fires across Russia in 2010".
