Complainant Name:
Ms Sandra Rhodes

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Courier (Dundee)

Ms Sandra Rhodes complained to the Press Complaints Commission about the publication of two articles, which she said had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice. The complainant felt the articles had suggested that she was the subject of allegations of financial mismanagement, whilst she had been a member of staff at the Adam Smith College in Fife, and she also noted that one of the newspaper's earlier reports had inaccurately stated that she had held the position of ‘Executive Director' at the College.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following clarification:

Reports in The Courier of April 5 and June 13 on the Scottish Funding Council inquiry into allegations of bullying and financial mismanagement at Adam Smith College in Fife, named senior college staff member Sandra Rhodes as being on leave during the SFC probe and having not returned to her desk almost three months after the SFC made its recommendations. We have been asked to make clear that Ms Rhodes was not subject to any allegations relating to financial mismanagement and that, contrary to earlier reports, she did not hold the post of Executive Director. We are happy to clarify the matter.
