Ms Jessica Antunes

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Evening Standard

Complaint:

Ms Jessica Antunes, complaining to the Press Complaints Commission on behalf of her father Antonio Antunes, considered the newspaper to have published an article in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The article had reported on the experience of a customer at the complainant's family restaurant, who claimed to have been charged for tap water because it was ‘served in a nice jug'. The complainant said that this allegation was false, and she felt its publication by the newspaper had breached the Editors' Code, a position which the newspaper did not accept.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following wording, to be appended to the online article, as gesture of goodwill on the part of the newspaper:

Antonio Antunes has asked us to reiterate the restaurant's assurance that this was a one-off mistake and that Los Molinos does not charge customers for tap-water, whether served by the glass or in a jug.
