Robert Stewart complained to the Press Complaints Commission through Lewis Silkin Solicitors that the newspaper had published inaccurate and misleading information in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The matter was resolved when the newspaper acknowledged that the information published was inaccurate in relation to the commencement of the Communication Workers Union's ‘Bite Back' campaign, and misleading in that it implied that: (1) victims of dog-attacks on private property have no form of legal redress when a civil action is available, and; (2) the prosecution failed because the incident took place on private property when, in reality, it was dismissed by the Judge as an abuse of process. The PCC negotiated the permanent removal of the article from the newspaper's website.
