Complainant Name:
Mr Chris Swift

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mail

Mr Chris Swift complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Code. He said that the newspaper had incorrectly claimed that Ched Evans - a footballer convicted of rape - had raped a girl after earlier seeing her in a kebab shop. The complainant stated that Mr Evans had not encountered the girl until later in the evening at a hotel.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the amendment of the online article to remove the reference to the encounter.
