Complainant Name:
Gillian Kay

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Heywood Advertiser

Gillian Kay complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had failed to distinguish between comment, conjecture and fact in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice when it reported her husband's cause of death before it had been established at inquest.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper undertook to publish the outcome of the inquest and correctly report the established cause of death at that stage.
