Complainant Name:
Shereef Abdallah

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Mail on Sunday

Shereef Abdallah complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published details of a series of criminal allegations against him but, when the police decided that no charges would be brought, had failed to report this fact. He was concerned that readers would have been misled in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following statement in print and ran a similar corrective wording alongside the online version of the article:

"An article on January 15, 2012, said Shereef Abdallah was being investigated by police over allegations that he sent death threats and racist abuse to women on Twitter. Mr Abdallah was not charged and police say there will be no further action."
