A woman

Clauses Noted: 1, 3

Publication: Take a Break

A woman complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the magazine had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice by publishing a letter attributed to her which she had not written and had not given consent for. She was further concerned that her address had been published, in breach of Clause 3 (Privacy) of the Code.

The magazine said that the letter had been based on a submission made by the complainant to the magazine and a subsequent telephone conversation with her. The matter was resolved when the magazine made an ex gratia payment to the complainant to be donated to a charitable cause.
