Complainant Name:
Mr Peter Reynolds

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Scottish Daily Mail

Complaint:

Mr Peter Reynolds complained to the Press Complaints Commission about an article, which appeared in the Scottish Daily Mail and online, which reported on a study published by scientists at the University of Aberdeen. The complainant was concerned about the article's use of a statistic relating to the link between cannabis use and mental health, which was taken from a press release which had subsequently been retracted by the University.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved after the negotiation by the PCC of the following clarification, which appeared in print and online:

An article on August 23rd quoted from an Aberdeen University press release which stated there was a causal link between cannabis use and psychosis. The university later amended their release to state that some cannabis users may develop symptoms of psychosis. We are happy to set the record straight.
