Complainant Name:
Daniel Warne

Clauses Noted: 1, 5

Publication: Bucks Free Press

Daniel Warne complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published a report of the inquest into his father's death which, in his view, was insensitive towards the feelings of the family of the deceased. He also considered that the coverage failed to include essential details that had not been made public and readers would have been misled by the omission. He believed that Clause 1 (Accuracy) and Clause 5 (Intrusion into grief or shock) had been breached.

While the newspaper did not accept any breach of the Code, it acknowledged the upset that its report had caused the complainant and his family. The complaint was resolved on the basis of a private letter provided by the newspaper to the complainant.
