Complainant Name:
Christine Rourke

Clauses Noted: 5

Publication: Wigan Evening Post

Christine Rourke complained to the Press Complaints Commission, via a representative from Victim Support, that the newspaper had failed to handle the publication of coverage of her son's death and the trial of his alleged killer sensitively, as required by Clause 5 (Intrusion into grief or shock) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper apologised for the distress caused and agreed to publish a follow-up article which, with the complainant's input, would form a tribute to her son.
