Complainant Name:
Curt Stringfellow

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Flintshire Leader

Complaint:

Curt Stringfellow complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published an interview with a former soldier which contained the man's account of an alleged attack he had suffered. The complainant explained that the alleged attack was actually the subject of ongoing legal proceedings and it was misleading in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) for the newspaper to present the ex-soldier's version of events as if it was accepted fact.

Resolution:

The newspaper said the ongoing legal proceedings had not been mentioned by the interviewee and it acknowledged that the situation regarding the alleged attack was more complicated than the account given in the article. The complaint was resolved when the newspaper agreed to publish a report of the future court proceedings at such a time when they move forward.
