Complainant Name:
Ms Finola Kelly

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mail

Ms Finola Kelly complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published a comment piece on the Equality and Human Rights Commission which contained inaccuracies and was misleading in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following correction and apology:

We are happy to clarify that staff at the Equality and Human Rights Commission complaining about planned redundancies had not actually threatened to sue (31 July). Affected staff - not all of whom were from minority backgrounds - had pointed out in a letter to deputy chairman Baroness Prosser that the proposals were in breach of the Equality Act. There was no intention to suggest that staff had not secured their positions on merit and we apologise if any contrary impression was given.
