Clauses Noted: 5, 6

Publication: Sutton Guardian

A man complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published information about his young niece following a family tragedy in breach of Clauses 5 (Intrusion into grief and shock) and 6 (Children) of the Code. This had made her return to school after the tragedy very difficult.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper sent the complainant a private letter of apology which expressed its sincere regret over the distress caused to the family by the article.
